PROGRAMS

PREVENT HATE currently has three flagship programs.

Witness Humanity™

PREVENT HATE’s original Witness Humanity™ program is a conflict resolution and reconciliation program where adversaries experience each other in a productive and compassionate manner by working together to help others in need of urgent assistance.

Witness Humanity™ provides enemies with a certified curriculum in sustainable development and then gives them the opportunity to re-evaluate each other by working together to enhance communities in unfortunate circumstances.

Witness Humanity™ is a comprehensive curriculum that resolves conflict, uses eco-friendly methods to foster sustainability and empowerment in developing regions, and provides at-risk individuals, groups, and communities with crucial skills and resources to be self-sufficient and to make a positive contribution to society.

Genocide Survivors and Former Child Soldiers Engaging
At-Risk Youth

PREVENT HATE’s Genocide Survivors and At-Risk Youth program provides role models to southern California schools by bringing survivors of genocide and former child soldiers to share their personal stories with at risk youth, explaining how they have been able to overcome the worst adversity, reject hatred, and make a positive contribution to society after all they have been through while encouraging the youth to do the same for themselves. All of PREVENT HATE’s speakers tell inspirational stories of survival and offer insight into the triumphant human spirit.

PREVENT HATE’s genocide survivors currently include a Jewish woman from the Holocaust who survived the Auschwitz death camp, a Kurdish man from Northern Iraq who had many close family members murdered by Saddam Hussein’s regime, and a Bosnian woman who escaped the hate of her neighbors during the 1990s war in the Balkans. Our former child soldiers come from different communities in Africa. More speakers and bios are coming soon!

Internet Conferencing Between Youth, Focusing on Humanitarian Issues

PREVENT HATE is about to begin conducting internet conferences between youth within southern California, and also between youth in southern California and different international areas with the purpose of dispelling myths and cultivating cross-cultural awareness. Students from different communities will be brought together through the internet to cooperate on a humanitarian or environmental issue using their computers (and other forms of digital media), thereby creating new partnerships between them based upon collaborative efforts to enhance the lives of others. This is PREVENT HATE's way of working with schools around greater Los Angeles to use the internet to improve society, get students from different communities to get involved with each other prosocially and as equals, and for schools locally to connect with youth in international communities.

Our first internet conference will be held soon. Details to follow shortly.

Priorities

In addition to PREVENT HATE’s programs, we are currently focusing on the following priority areas:

Community Safety
Our focus on community safety includes:

  • Working with the Los Angeles County Office of Education to develop a set of best practices to engage at-risk youth;
  • Participating as a member of Rescue and Restore, a consortium of southern California organizations and agencies to combat human trafficking;
  • Focusing on prison reform;

Preventing hate and resolving conflict

PREVENT HATE continuously develops homegrown projects that cultivate awareness about pertinent public affairs issues, expose humanity, and bring communities together to develop mutual appreciation of each other. We also offer a list of hate crimes resources.

Facilitating the efforts of other agencies, institutions, and organizations

PREVENT HATE enjoys working with others to maximize the power and effectiveness of our work. Cross-sectional examples of organizations, institutions, and agencies with whom we have worked are:

  • The City of Los Angeles
  • The County of Los Angeles
  • The United Nations Association of the United States of America
  • The University of Southern California
  • Jewish World Watch
  • Korean American Coalition of Los Angeles
  • Kurdish American Education Society
