Research conducted between January and June 2024 as part of the Media Diversity Institute’s “Get the trolls out!” initiative reveals that when religious hate speech does appear in the media, it is frequently followed by hostile remarks from readers. There can also be increased attention from proponents and opponents of different religious traditions. Most media organizations—broadcast, online, or print—continue to have difficulties in moderating these remarks on social media platforms and/or online platforms.
