The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) is preventing adolescent hate crimes and identity-based bullying in part with the help of this program. The program was created to increase youth protective factors, modify the mindset and actions of young people who commit hate crimes, and assist others who interact with these young people in seeing the potential of cutting-edge communications technology to address bias and dissolve barriers across cultures. While protective factors function as a buffer against risk factors and may reduce the possibility of violence victimization or perpetration, risk factors are qualities that increase the risk for violence. To better comprehend violence and take into account the interactions between individual, relational, community, and societal issues, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention employ a four-level social-ecological model.
