An astounding 74% of UK academics report experiencing online harassment as a result of their published research, according to a study published in the journal New Formations. Even though colleges frequently demand or promote internet presence, they offer relatively little assistance to the academics who suffer as a result of bad press. Intersectional disparities in the quantity of hate mail received were the primary focus of the study. The findings indicate a higher likelihood of online abuse, particularly identity-focused abuse, for women and ethnic minorities. The idea that online pile-ons usually originate from the left is in contradiction to this study. Nearly three quarters of respondents reported having received hostile remarks for research published online, which is another startling finding from the study.
