In 2023, young Canadians between the ages of 15 and 24 were the most likely to rely on social media for news and information (62% versus 18% for older Canadians). Younger people who use social media and the Internet frequently may be more likely to experience or be inspired to commit online harassment and aggression, ranging from being exposed to offensive information to becoming victims of cyberbullying and hate crimes, including sexual harassment and exploitation directed at particular people.
