Populist campaigns, hate speech, and even death threats: attacks against researchers, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, caused some of them to stop speaking in public. Up until now, little is known empirically about the hostility Germany has toward science. The study examines the level of animosity towards researchers and creates institutional resources to safeguard them both online and offline.
